A marketing strategy template you fill in here and leave with a finished plan

What this marketing strategy template asks you for

Nine fields, in the order a marketing leader would actually work through them: the one objective, who you are reaching, the problem they have, why you rather than the obvious alternative, the channels ranked, what you will actually publish, how you will know it worked, the budget, and what would make the whole thing fail.

It is the document a fractional CMO produces in week one. We give it away because the template has never been the hard part — the hard part is being made to answer nine questions honestly in one sitting, with everything on a single page where the contradictions cannot hide behind a section break.

Build your marketing strategy

Type into the fields and the plan below fills in as you go. Nothing is sent anywhere — when you are done, copy it, download it or print it to PDF.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to us and nothing is stored — if you close the tab, the plan is gone, so download it.

Your one-page marketing plan

Fill the fields above and press Build the plan

Each section below fills in as you type. The point of a one-page plan is that everything competing for the same budget sits on one sheet where the contradictions are visible.

One page marketing plan template

The output above is a one-page marketing plan template: objective, audience, problem, differentiation, channels, programme, measurement, budget and risk. Nine fields. If a plan needs more than that to be understood, the extra pages are usually there to survive a meeting rather than to guide the work.

The discipline is the constraint. One objective, not four. Channels ranked rather than listed, because an unranked list is a wish and a ranked one is a decision about what gets cut when the quarter goes badly.

Marketing budget template

The budget field above is deliberately a single number rather than a spreadsheet. Allocation is a second exercise and it should follow the channel ranking, not precede it. If you want the arithmetic for what the total should be, the marketing budget calculator derives a starting figure from revenue.

Digital marketing strategy template

Nothing in this template is specific to digital, which is intentional. A digital marketing strategy template that treats channels as the starting point produces a channel plan with a strategy sticker on it. Objective, audience and problem come first; whether the answer turns out to be search, a podcast, a conference stage or all three is an output, not an input.

Where digital does need its own treatment is measurement. Put the system of record in the measurement field — Search Console, the CRM, the ad platform — because a KPI without a named source is the thing that gets argued about in month four.

Free marketing plan template, with no email gate

This is free, ungated and on the page. There is no download form, no drip sequence and no lead magnet behind it. If it is useful and you later want someone to run the plan rather than write it, that conversation is the honest ask, and it does not require your email address today.

What to do when a field is hard to fill in

The fields people stall on are consistent, and the stall is the finding. If the objective needs two sentences, there are two objectives. If why us reads like something a competitor could also say, you do not yet have a differentiator, you have a category description. If the channel list will not rank, nobody has been made to choose.

None of that is a template problem. It is what a fractional CMO engagement spends its first month on, and it is worth knowing before you commit a budget to a plan built on a field you could not answer.

Two companion tools, both free and both on the page: the marketing ROI and budget calculators for the arithmetic, and the press release generator for when the plan calls for earned media.

Frequently asked questions

At minimum: a single measurable objective with a date, the audience and the moment they start looking for what you sell, the problem in their language, your differentiation against the real alternative, channels in priority order, the concrete programme you will run, the measurement and its source system, the budget, and the risk most likely to sink it. Nine fields. Templates that run to thirty pages tend to be built to survive an internal review rather than to direct work.

The strategy is the set of choices: who you are for, what you are claiming, and what you are therefore not doing. The plan is the sequence of activity that follows from those choices — what runs, when, for how much. Most documents labelled strategy are plans with the choices missing, which is why they read as a list of channels. This template forces the choices first and lets the activity follow.

It is this template, rendered. The value of the one-page constraint is not brevity for its own sake — it is that everything competing for the same budget ends up visible at once, so an objective that three of the five channels do not serve becomes obvious rather than arguable.

The strategy — audience, problem, differentiation — should be stable for a year or more, and if it is changing quarterly the problem is that it was never really decided. The plan underneath it should be reviewed quarterly against the measurement field, with channels allowed to move up or down the ranking on evidence. Rewriting the strategy every quarter is how companies end up with no compounding assets.

No. The template is on this page, it runs in your browser, and the plan you build is never transmitted to us or stored anywhere. Download it or print it before you close the tab, because we are not keeping a copy for you.

Built the plan and the gap is capacity, not clarity?

That is the usual outcome, and it is a conversation rather than a document. Twenty minutes is enough to size it.
