On set — story-first filming
Unscripted, real moments
Where the work happensMost of our brand video production work arrives as a request for one of three things. They look like different products and they are the same craft, which is worth understanding before you brief anyone.
This is the most common first request and the one most often done badly. The brief usually arrives as “can we film three happy customers”, and the version that works is not that. A customer on camera reciting adjectives — professional, responsive, great to work with — persuades nobody, because every competitor has a reel of exactly the same sentences.
What persuades is the specific before and after. What the situation actually was. What changed. What it cost them to make the change, and what they were worried about while they made it. That is a documentary interview technique applied to a two-minute commercial format, and it is why our testimonial video production starts with finding the story rather than booking a crew.
Longer, broader, and aimed at the question “why does this organisation exist” rather than “does this product work”. These carry further internally than people expect — recruitment, onboarding and investor conversations tend to use them more than marketing does. That internal use is corporate storytelling work.
The full version: a real narrative, real access, and a running time that earns attention rather than interrupting it. Everything above is a shorter application of the same discipline.
A CEO asking for a testimonial video is very often asking for a documentary and does not know it yet — because what they actually want is for somebody outside the company to find the true version of the story and tell it without varnish. The format is a budget decision. The craft underneath it is the same one, and it is the part that determines whether anyone watches.
So brief the outcome, not the format. Tell us who has to believe something they currently do not, and we will tell you which of the three does that most cheaply.

Yes, and it is often the sensible place to start. The process is the same as a longer brand film — we find the story first, then film it — and the output is a short piece built around a specific before and after rather than a montage of praise. Several clients begin here and commission longer work once they have seen what the interview technique surfaces.
Most brand video production starts with a script and finds people to say it. We start with the people and find out what is true, then build the piece from that. It is slower at the front and it is the reason the results do not sound like everyone else\u2019s. It also means we will sometimes tell you the story you asked for is not the strongest one you have.
