Peter Murphy Lewis, Founder & CEO of Strategic Pete, is a leader with a unique approach to business. As a fractional CMO, TV host, and creator of the People Worth Caring About docu-series, Peter has built a reputation for driving growth through purpose, human-centered marketing, and adaptability.

In his recent appearance on the Becker Private and Business Podcast, Peter shared valuable insights on leadership, marketing, and business innovation—insights any leader can apply to their own organization.

Below are the highlights from the conversation, presented in Peter’s own words.

“The Best Way to Control the Narrative Is to Show, Not Tell”

In a world dominated by press and public opinion, controlling the narrative around your business is more important than ever. Peter’s experience in long-term care has shown him the power of authentic storytelling in marketing.

“The best way to control that narrative was to talk about people who want to work there and why they don’t leave for a better-paying job in another industry,” Peter shared.

He’s right—most businesses spend time trying to explain what they do well, but great marketing starts with showing who you are as a company. Peter’s People Worth Caring About docu-series was a prime example. He shifted the conversation in long-term care from the typical negative headlines to the real stories of the people who make the industry tick—the caregivers who are the backbone of the business.

“For me, it’s about showcasing the passion behind the profession. If we want to control the conversation, we need to show the value we bring,” he explained. Whether in healthcare or any other industry, this is a lesson for every business leader: stories sell, not just products or services.

“You Can’t Rest on Your Laurels”

Peter’s success comes from his constant willingness to adapt. He firmly believes that businesses must remain agile to succeed.
